The shortest option is to arrive at the Venezia S. Lucia station and will require a transfer. Best not to haul a lot of luggage in case you have stairs to climb when connecting.

A bit more information would be helpful? Were you planning to travel by train from Salzburg to Italy? Before getting too far in your planning, I'd suggest having a look at the RS Italy guidebook so that you can figure out what you most want to see. That will help you choose destinations in Italy and plan sightseeing. Florence makes a great "home base" and you can easily get from there to Venice, Siena, etc.
