From Rome to Sorrento

We are planning a trip for August-Sept. and want to go from Rome to Sorrento, but we can't seem to find the schedules for that connection...does anyone know the best way (with a Eurail pass).

You will have to split your trip into two segments. From Rome, you can make a reservation on the train to Naples and use your railpass - the quickest is less than 2 hours. The Circumsuviana (www.vesuviana.it) commuter train is a private train that goes from Naples to Sorrento. That's a separate ticket and should be less than 10 Euro. You can connect at the Naples Central station. The ride from Naples to Sorrento is anywhere between 55-70 minutes.

It's also interesting to note that the Circumvesuviana train dead-ends in Sorrento...so there's not chance of missing your stop.

The Naples train station can be a little shadey so hold on to your bags, and don't let ANYBODY take them from you or offer to buy a ticket for you. It's all very do-able yourself.

Also there will be beggars on the Circumvesuviana. We only saw the occasional musician playing for change and 1 little girl who played violin really badly...nevertheless she wanted a tip.
