From Rome have 2 days...what to do??

I have 2 days that I cannot decide what I want to do?? Almalfi coast, Capri, sorrento, or florence. I am afraid that if we go to alfami coast we will not have enough time. Any ideas of some nice places or what ones can be skipped? Sarah

There is always Florence but it some ways is a small Rome. I don't mean in a negative way. It is different but still a city with old buildings but I like the size better than Rome. It is a little friendlier and easier to get around in.

Ostia Antica is an easy day trip from Rome. Not as spectular as Pompeii since most of the ruins are not as well preserved. If you visit just the ruins, it can be done in half a day

If you do not want to take a long train ride stay close to Rome and go to Orvieto or Tivoli. Both are incredible and about 1 hour from downtown. And I agree with Susan, if you can't get to Pompeii, Ostia Antica (a free metro ride away!)

All of these are very accessible and get you out of Rome! Kent's correct, Florence is easy in one day!

Last week we had friends over from the States and they were here on a limited schedule. Yet they HAD TO SEE "David" and the Leaning Tower. So we did the Rome-Pisa-Firenze-Rome tour starting at 7:30 AM and returning at 11:52 PM. Needless to say it was a rush day with 4 separate train rides! We did it but it's not the way to "SEE" Italy!

You won't have the time to see all you want to see... but make sure what you see, you take the time TO SEE! So set your priorities, don't spend all your time on trains, and if you run out of time... COME BACK! I've been here a while and still find new things just in Rome everyday!

Ciao,
Ron

I would visit Orvieto. It's only an hour from Rome and you can visit Spoleto from there. The countryside towns will give you a different perspective of Italy than the big cities.
