I am looking at our options to get to the first tour hotel which are taxi, bus or train. RS recommends taxi or the bus. The train option is listed in the RS Sicily book. The train drops you off at the same place as the bus and I would prefer to take the train as perhaps it is less crowded than the bus but maybe not. Have any of you taken the train into Palermo to get to the hotel? Thanks.
I will arrive in Sicily on May 01 and have looked into the bus option. The bus has a stop at Teatro Politeama Garibaldi which is near many of the hotels. You can check the distance from your hotel to the stop but I believe it is closer than the main train station.
We had planned to take the bus to our Palermo hotel but then decided to spend some days in Cefalu so
we'll take the train from PMO to Cefalu upon arrival.
I took the bus and I think it's probably the easiest way, because you put your luggage under the bus before you board, unlike a train where you would carry your luggage on.
The bus was not full at all, probably because it runs frequently, and it was just a couple of blocks walk to the Ambasciatori.
@Nadine The central station where the train stops in Palermo is close to our hotel. The bus also stops there.
@Liz in PA Thanks for the info.
Okay - nice to have choices :-)
I might do a combination bus/train if the bus is easier to downtown as it seems to be (thanks LIZinPA).
@Nadine. The bus or the train take basically the same amount of time to get there from the airport. I am just curious why RS doesn’t mention that in our tour documents for getting to the first hotel.
