From Luzern to Varenna?

Susan, The easiest way (IMHO) would be via train, and there are numerous departure times on that route. For example, you could use a departure from Lucerne at 11:18, arriving Milano Centrale at 14:50 (time 3H:32M, one change at Arth-Goldau, reservations compulsory on one leg). There are earlier departures as well, but some have a slightly longer travel time. From Milano Centrale, it's an easy 1H:03M via Regionale train to Varenna (station will be shown as Varenna-Esino). Current fare is 6.25€ (BE SURE to validate your ticket). Be ready to disembark promptly, as the train doesn't stop for long! You'll pass through a tunnel just prior to arrival in Varenna.
