From Lucca to the Cinque Terre

My best guess is train to Pisa Centrale, then transfer train to one of the Cinque Terre. Some experience is appreciated.

Take a train from Lucca to La Spezia and switch over to a slow local train that takes you to the C/T.

The route depends on the day and the time.
Just like searching for plane tickets the train lines are an organized system.
You can put in from Lucca to La Spezia (or the name of what town you are trying to go to along the Cinque Terre ) in this search engine:

bc,

To begin with, you'll need to specify which of the five Cinque Terre towns you're going to when you buy tickets. It would help to know your end destination? The best source for researching train details in Italy is the Trenitalia website, as they're the ones that actually operate the trains.

Many of the trains you'll be using are Regionale, so there are no discounts for advance ticket purchase. I'd suggest just buying your tickets in Lucca, perhaps the day prior to the day of travel. For travel on Regionale trains, DON'T forget to validate your tickets prior to boarding the train on the day of travel, or you'll risk hefty fines which will be collected on the spot!

Depending on which train solution you choose, part of the trip may be via Freccia or Intercity trains. You don't have to validate tickets for those, however the tickets come with compulsory seat reservations so you must sit in the assigned seats.

No, from Lucca you go to Viareggio where you intercept trains coming from Pisa - and then probably another change in La Spezia.
