We will be in the Lake Como region for 4 days in late August this year. Does anyone know if it's possible to take a day trip to Lucerne, Switzerland via train and/or bus from Lake Como area? We really only want to see the lion of Lucerne. Can we catch a train/bus in the Lake Como area or do we have to do south to Milan to catch the train/bus? Thank you, in advance, for any information!

It takes about 3 hours from the town of Chiasso by train with 1 change and costs 62 chf one way. Chiasso is just 2 miles from the city of Como and you can get there on a local train from Como San Giovanni station.
