I booked my hotel in Central Rome through Expedia and now I see that I could also book a shuttle from the airport to the hotel for less money than a taxi would cost. Has anyone had any experience with a shuttle? Thanks
No, but I find that it is quite easy to take the train from FCO to Termini and then a taxi for a short ride to my hotel. The train runs every half hour. Shuttles can take longer if they have to wait for other arrivals or if they are dropping people off at other hotels.
If you decide to take the train, be sure to validate your ticket before you board.
Yes I have taken a shuttle before to the station, since it was the same price as the train.
If your takes you to the hotel for less than a taxi, it's probably a good deal.
The taxi charges a €48 flat fee. The train is €14 per person and takes you to Termini station.
From Termini station to your hotel you would probably need a taxi (another €15-20, probably) if you have substantial luggage, unless your hotel is located walking distance from the station. If you travel with substantial luggage don't attempt to take a city bus (or the metro), because it's cumbersome, especially if crowded.
Based on the above, you decide, depending on your situation.
I will be traveling to Rome (flying in to FCO as well) next week and staying with an Italian friend of mine. She recommended that I use this shuttle:

It takes you directly from FCO to Termini Station. It's reasonably priced, offers lots of times and free wi-fi. You don't even have to book in advance.
A friend and I have used the Viator (viator.com) shuttle on several occasions. It was around $25.00 with advance, online booking. I did have to wait at the airport for the rest of my shuttle-load of people to arrive, about 1/2 hr. Since I was dropped right in front of my hotel, it was worth the wait to me. My friend did not have to wait at all. I also used Viator for a hotel in Trastevere, in a pedestrian area. They took me within less than a block from my hotel, driving in the pedestrian area until the "street" was too narrow for the van! They also took my friend from the hotel back to the airport, and were early for her pickup time. Yes, early, in Italy! -- I have used the Leonardo Express and walked to my hotel (a Rick Steves recommended hotel) from Termini Station, but the older I get, the more I appreciate the shuttle.
