What are my best options for efficient travel to Florence from Amalfi? Would like to stop and visit Assisi and Orvieto along the way..thx!
Rent a car and drive.
Or take public transportation e.g. taxi, ferry, or bus to Salerno Train Station.
At Salerno take the train to Orvieto.
From Orvieto take the train to Assissi
From Assissi take the train to Florence
Current bus and ferry schedules
These will be updated April 1.

Full schedule update by 2nd week of June.
You need to look at the train schedules on trenitalia.com. There are no trains from Amalfi. You have to go to Salerno or Sorrento by bus or ferry (run about 1/2 the year). From Salerno you can take trenitalia trains. From Sorrento you have to take the Circumvesuviana commuter train to Naples for "real" trains. There are some fast trains to Orvieto. There are only regional trains to Assisi. Look at schedules within the next week - regional trains don't usually show up until then.
I hope you mean stopping overnight in both Orvieto and Assisi.
Travel time alone on public transit from Amalfi to Salerno to Orvieto to Assisi to Florence is 10 hours at best, so hopefully you're planning at least one overnight stop. If you want to stop in transit and don't mind taking most of the day to get from Amalfi to Florence, then stopping to visit Orvieto is feasible but not both.
