Friends turning 50 - where to stay

A group of old (as in dear, not age!) girlfriends will be turning 50 AND becoming empty-nesters in 2009. We want to celebrate by going to Tuscany and renting a villa that is within walking distance to a nice town/village and within day-trip distance to Florence and other towns. Interests are food, wine, shopping.

Teri,
Check out Italian Vacation Villas. We used them to rent our villa close to Radda. We were 1-2 hours away from Florence, Siena, Pisa and other small towns. I'm not sure how many bedrooms you want ( ours had 3) Let me know if you need any more information!

The hotel looks lovely and would be a good location - thank you.

There are many rental opportunities in the hills of Chianti (which is where Rodda is located) I love this area of Italy and am planning to stay in Greve in October. We will be about halfway between Siena and Florence with many hill towns close by. The villages and scenery in this area are very picturesque and many tours are offered. (We are doing a bike tour out of Florence that takes us to a farm where they make olive oil and wine.) There are many argitourismos in the area-some that are with in walking distance of a village. We are staying at Casa Nova-La Ripintua where we have rented a 2 bedroom apartment for two couples. One web site to check is www.greve-in-chianti.com (some of the places listed there are closer to Rodda) This is the Italy I dream of when I close my eyes at night. You need a car to really get around to the other hill towns, but there is a bus that goes between Siena and Florence. Don't attempt to drive in Florence. We plan on driving to the outskirts and catching a bus to the downtown area. (I have been to this area before, but this is the first time I am staying in Greve. If you Private Message me your info, I will send you a message when I get back and let you know how everything went)
