Friday Night Vatican-Earliest slot the least crowded? Or doesn't matter?

Hello,

We are planning to do the Friday night Vatican program. I've read (once) that by choosing the earliest night slot at 7:00, the Sistine Chapel is pretty empty. Apparently one can power right through to the chapel and see it without any crowds and then head back to the rest of the museum. 7:00 might be a little hard for us to make with 7:30 being easier. I'm guessing that the crowds will have increased in the chapel by this time, though. Any experiences?

Also, we are walking over to Piazza Navona afterwards and would love to stop for a quick bite, not a long and lingering meal. Any suggestions?

Thanks for any info!

Not in Piazza Navona but in a side street nearby is Antico Taverna. On another street, Cul de Sac.

Nights are never very crowded and are certainly not like going during the day. I wouldn't stress to much about getting there right at 7 or 7:30. There won't be that many people inside the chapel. I've gotten into it after 8:30 and there was still seating along the walls.

We did the Friday night tour last October, I highly recommend it. It was indescribably less crowded than during the day. The tour ended in the Chappel, it was crowded but nothing like what it would be during the day. We didn't have any issues walking around and taking it all in.

Thanks! I want to make sure that we have time to get over there from the basilica. It looks like that extra half hour won't make that much of a difference.

I would book the earliest slot arrive at least 30 mns before your time. Eat an early dinner before. We didn't get out till late. Cab lines are also long trying to leave.
