Friday night tours in Rome - Vatican or Forum

My husband and I will spend 4 nights in Rome this September, including a Friday. We would like to take advantage of either the Forum or Vatican Museum Friday night tour. Any opinions on which would be a better experience at night? We would do the other as a regular day tour on another day. Thanks for your opinions!

Personally, I'd choose the Vatican Museums as you'd be inside if it turns out to be a rainy evening, and doing the Palatine, Forum and Colosseum together on the same day is the most efficient use of a general admission ticket.

One ticket covers all three, and they're in the same general area. While the ticket is good for two consecutive days, you are not allowed to split visits to the Forum and Palatine: they must be done on the SAME day. The Colosseum can be done on the 2nd day...or vice Versa. Still, because they're so close together, doing all three in one day eliminates the need to return to this part of the city.

Private tours of the Forum (not sure what you mean by 'regular tour') of course, may be a different situation. While they probably include the general admission ticket, the fine print would need to be referenced for each company. There are also tours which cover all three sites.

I would choose the Vatican museums simply because it's not nearly as crowded as during the day. Just remember that not all of the galleries are open for the night visit so check the website to make sure what you want to see is going to be open. If not, you'll need to do the day time visit.

Thanks Kathy and Donna for your input. Good points about possible rain at the Forum and crowds at the Vatican. I was leaning towards the Vatican for Friday night and think I'll go ahead and book that.
