French Coast and Italian Riviera

Hi there, My wife and I are landing on Nice on Saturday, May 18th, 2013 and have until Monday, May 27th, 2013 to make it Rome. We already have 3 nights booked in Nice as we are seeing friends there and we are taking a day trip (by train) to Monaco. The idea is to train/bus our way all around the coast of France and Italy, stoping in little towns along the way for a day or two. What towns do you suggest we don't miss? We will be stoping of course in Santa Margherita & Cinque Terra. What other little coastal towns do you recommend? Also, what hotels, B&B's and restaurants we shouldn't miss? Thanks for your help and input!

I'll mention only the places along the rail line, since you won't have a car. You won't have time for all, so pick what you'd like: Menton Sanremo Santa Margherita Ligure (Portofino by bus from S.M.L.) Cinque Terre Forte dei Marmi (Apuan Alps visit) Pisa (visit Lucca also from Pisa) (From Pisa you might get to Rome via Florence if you wish) If you continue along the coast: Monte Argentario (Orbetello Scalo station) Capalbio (Capalbio Scalo station)-one of the most beautiful Maremma villages. Tarquinia (Etruscan museum)
