News today of a possible end to the free museum Sunday. It may continue at the option of the museum.

I'm seeing that news on "The Local" as well:

Personally, I think scrapping the thing is fine but wouldn't mind seeing it continue for Italian citizens only, with everyone else having to purchase tickets/passes?
That is a great idea, Kathy: residents only free. Tourists should pay.
OTOH, I'd like to see Rome have a decent pass, like the Paris Museum Pass, less complicated than the Roma Pass, more straightforward, more useful.

I'd vote for that too! The PMP is a GREAT pass. And do the same for Florence? They have the Firenze Pass, of course, but I'd love to see them have more than a 72-hour version. The old Amici degli Uffizi pass used to be a nice buy for tourists staying long enough to put it to good use but not since dropping the majority of the museums it used to cover.
