We will be driving. Any suggestions on a free place to park. We can easily walk a couple km's if needed
Sally We drove 2 years ago and tried for free parking. The way we came into town allowed for no free parking so we used a very convenient underground parking right at the top of the hill. It was not that expensive and we stayed 2 nights.
There is another parking area at the back end of the town where they hold the market and the Roman theatre is situated. That probably is free parking but I cannot recollect the route to take to get to it.
Thanks. We will look out for that lot.
You can use Google Maps Streetview to scope out what sure looks to me like free lots on Viale Gabriele D'Annunzio.
Thanks. I did do that and saw the lot on the north side of Volterra. Looks like a large lot and we'll head for it.
Free? Nothing in Italy is free. Pay the parking fee. There is plenty of close-in parking for the taking. It's not that expensive. Park on the opposite side of town from the main entrance to Volterra (Castello entrance), and use one of the back entrances.
The lot Shelly mentioned is a pay lot. There is a small lot that's free (unless things have changed in the las few months) just a bit down the street, lot 6 if I remember correctly. Very small lot and wouldn't suggest moving your car if you do get a spot. Very short walk into centro.
