Free parking and train into Florence

Current Itinerary: 4 nights in Rome, then rent car, drive Rick Steve's Brunello Wine Country Route, staying a night at a roadside B&B outside of Siena. Next day, see Siena and then head into Florence for 3 nights. We plan to do Rick Steve's Heart of Tuscany drive on our last day on the way back to Rome airport for our last night.

My question is, we plan to park our rental car outside the ZTL while we stay in Florence. It is a paid lot. I'm wondering if there are free lots somewhere along the train line that are free and easy to use. (FYI - I did look into one-way rentals but it is cheaper and less hectic to rent the car and park for 3 days)

Thanks for your help!

Not totally free but very cheap is the Villa Costanza Parking Lot, along the A1 freeway. That is also the last stop of the T1 light rail tramway (trolley) to the city center (Santa Maria Novella train station). Save the address link above and drive there from Siena, if you don’t want to park closer to the city center (for more money). Besides driving closer to the center won’t save you much time, once you struggle through the traffic and find your way to other lots, Villa Costanza is really easy to find and conveniently located at the T1 tramway stop. Coming from Siena enter the A1 freeway at FIRENZE IMPRUNETA take the direction for BOLOGNA (A1 north) and exit at the very next exit VILLA COSTANZA. The freeway toll is only about 1€.
