Free Museums this Saturday Night

If you're in Italy between now and June 5, there's an annual Europe-wide event called Night at the Museum where museums have free or reduced admission and stay open until 10 or 11 pm. The entire event series runs May 14 - June 5. In Florence the Uffizi, Academia and Bargello are participating with late hours and admission for 1 euro on Saturday May 21. Over 100 related events in Tuscany can be found here: www.regione.toscana.it Click the Cittadini tab and choose Cultura and you'll see the Amico Museo 2016 events calendar. It's not only museums - there are family events, guided visits and lots of other activities in both famous and hidden venues.

At least some of the museums in Madrid celebrated Museum Day on Wednesday, May 18. There was free admission to the Prado, Reina Sofia and Monastery de las Descalzas Reales. I need to remember to Google for info on this event before my next springtime trip. It tends not to be terribly well publicized--at least not in ways that come to the attention of foreign visitors.
