We are traveling with Rick’s group 8/27-9/13. I am wondering what you experienced travels recommend for our free day at Lake Como? Looking forward to this once in a lifetime opportunity!
hey hey jon.s.townsend
if this is your lifetime opportunity GO FOR IT!! where will you be training from and staying at to see lake como and which day? how long will your free day be and are you going solo?
lake como is one the top places to go to, your dates are still high season with crowds up the ying yang. overtourism "ruined" by all the influencers/social media/instagram, my opinion.
just be prepared you will probably have full trains, long lines for ferry tickets (buy round trip if possible so no waiting), restaurants full with more waits. many daytrippers doing what you want, and then being in a hurry to get out, grumpy, nasty, impatient, pushy. just so you know, or you can hope for a great quiet free day.
know your feeling, first trip to europe years ago (rome) i wanted to ride the "fast train", friend says you don't have time (was there 5 days before transatlantic cruise), told i'll make time or go by myself. agreed, she had been to florence, so we decided on naples. got some weird looks like "why?" lol. trained down, walked & roamed around, oldest pizza shop, narrow alley ways window shopping, sat near the water to people watch with wine. it was and is nitty/gritty garbage everywhere, busy areas with cops, guards with their uzes/tanks/rifles a sight to see. what an incredible day, one of our crazy day trips we loved and laugh till today. got back on train to rome and laughed all the way back. go gave a great time & enjoy
aloha
We enjoyed our self-guided Villa del Balbianello tour. Make sure you buy your tickets in advance. If you buy your tickets for the morning, you’ll have time in the afternoon to take the ferry to Varenna or Bellagio.
