Free Admission 1st Sunday of the Month

Hello all,

I am going to Rome for the first time ever in early May with my grown son and I have pre-booked everything! My 3 tours, Vatican tickets, Necropolis tickets, etc. My question is, I want to take advantage of the free admission on the 1st Sunday so, do you all think I could do the Coliseum (with Roman Forum), Galleria Borghese, AND Castel Sant' Angelo all in one day? We have nothing else planned for that day but, I know a free day can get busy! Thanks for all the great information I get from all of you!

I guess we can disregard this question because Galleria Borghese has no reservations open on that day so, I know I can do the Coliseum and Castel Sant' Angelo in one day! I will just plan another day for Borghese since I will be in Rome for a whole week!

Can't answer for Castel Sant' Angelo but it's usually recommended to do anything BUT the Colosseum on free Sunday. As the #1 tourist attraction in Rome, it'll be mobbed and the security-check queue will be very, very long. If still intent on doing it, I'd get in line early in the morning before it opens.

Thanks for the advice, I may just choose someplace else like Capitoline and just pay for the Coliseum another day!

On Free Day I absolutely run in the opposite direction. "can get busy" is an absolutely understatement. It is a mob. On free days, I do laundry and enjoy the sidewalk cafes.

Walking the Appian Way is an excellent use of a "free" Sunday.

We visited Ostia Antica on a free Sunday in June 2016. A great site and no crowds!
