Hello,
Planning my trip to Italy and have a question about Frecciarossa seating. I will be taking luggage with me and I am traveling in July/August so I'm sure these trains will be packed. I don't mean to sound too paranoid but I like sitting near my luggage just to keep an eye on things. On the trenitalia website for standard class fare it shows that one end of the carriage has a bathroom and a stroller sign. Is the luggage stow also located here? Or is it on the other end? Sorry for the very specific question but appreciate your assistance.
The train will not have more people on it than the number of seats, and everybody will have a reservation.
Frecciarossa trains don't have station stops very often so no matter where you sit you can stroll over to the luggage if you want at the few stops.
Is your luggage so large that it won't fit in the "A" between the seats, or over your head?
Looking at the seating chart, your best bet is to choose a seat near the back-to-back seats are located; if your suitcase is less than 24@, it should fit in the A-shaped space there. If it's larger, you may need to use the end-of-carriage racks. Some trains also have racks in the middle of the carriage, you can choose a seat within view of those.
Note that the train company has the right to substitute the type of carriages on any route, although the Freccia lines are pretty consistent.
If your luggage is not a very large suitcase you can put it above you on the overhead compartment.
If you travel with huge suitcases (not recommended if using trains because you have to load it onboard yourself), then you need to leave it in the compartments at the end of the cars. If that makes you feel uneasy, buy a small cable lock and tie them together. Theft on Frecciarossa trains is very rare as thieves don't invest on those expensive tickets for a chance of stealing dirty underwear, but I guess it might be possible on Regional commuter trains.
