Freccia Rossa trains - Monday travel and strikes

Are there any special considerations with planning for Freccia Rossa train travel on Mondays? Or is Monday just another day?

Also, I found this about strikes on the Trenitalia web site:

http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=4015eb82a8fbf310VgnVCM1000008916f90aRCRD

It doesn't give much hard information. For example, if there is a strike, what happens to your reservation? Do you lose it and have to buy another or can you transfer it to another train? If you get dumped short of your destination do you get a refund, do you get to use the rest of your reservation on another train, something else?

Does anyone have any experience with strikes and travel on Freccia Rossa trains?

Thanks!

I have encountered two transportation strikes in thirty years. They are publicized well in advance and some trains will still run. You must go to the ticket window to change your ticket if it has a reserved train and seat number, you can't just hop on the first train that shows up. It's very rare, not worth worrying about, but you need to know what to do if it happens.

I think Monday should be fine - you may hit "rush hour" depending what time you're traveling, but you'll have a reserved seat on the Freccia trains so even if it's crowded it shouldn't be much of a problem.

The nice thing, like Zoe said, is that strikes are announced ahead of time (and sometimes cancelled when they get closer). Some trains are still running... in terms of a refund and such, you would have to talk to Trenitalia (probably just go to a station and go to the desk there) and figure out what to do.

The word for strikes is sciopero and here are two websites that will give more information on strikes as well as when some are planned for the coming months.

This site is in Italian but you can search which strikes are going on. http://www.cgsse.it/web/guest/ricerca-scioperi
