We have a connecting flight which deposits us in Rome at 9 a.m. and we leave at 1 p.m. Considering the delays at security stop points, it wouldn't be worth venturing far from the airport. Any suggestions about how to occupy our time would be appreciated.
What's the destination of your flight out of Rome? If the US, you won't have time to leave the airport and get back.
Your stuck. There is nothing around the airport and it is thirty minutes by train into Rome. And by that time of day, the security check areas can get long. Take a nap.
... or read a book. Not enough time to do anything - sorry.
Really? I'm so sad to see these responses because my daughter and I have the same situation in Julya 4-hr. layover in Rome (enroute from Munich to Florence). Is there anything around/close to the airport? Even a neat place to have lunch?
As Gertrude Stein once said, " there is no there, there." People watch and grab a bite in the airport.
I love the English translation page of the Fiumicino LDV airport site: http://www.adr.it/static/en/portal/portal/adr/Fiumicino/Servizi.1.html At the airport there are many services available such as post-offices, cult places, and meeting rooms which facilitate the passenger in his staying, before and after his flight. "Cult places" means places of worship, in this case a chapel.
I would try and rearrange my flight for a four DAY layover.
Last week we flew into Rome on Easy Jet at 10 am. Our flight to JFK was at 2:40 PM. It was too early to check in for our flight so we just ate a leaisurely lunch at the airport. There were absolutely no lines at security but don't count on that!
Jim, I'd agee that you just don't have the time to head out, see Rome, and then head back through security. Here's one of our latest experiences at FCO, At the FCO Airport (Again). And I've probably been to this airport 80 - 100 times! You might look at this post on the new ADR Website for FCO. This is a "beta test" site, and it could give you some more insight into what to see/do at FCO. There's certainly more BEHIND security... but I'd bring a good book! And if you're behind security, and since you've got lot's of time, walk over to San Crispino in Terminal A for gelato. Might be as close to a taste of Roma as you'll get at FCO.
Love the contrast between Copenhagen and FCO. Funny story, although I am sure it wasn't funny at the time.
Yup, sorry Jim, not enough time to get into Rome and back in 4 hours. There's an excellent chocolate/gelato shop at the airport though. It's been brought up in this helpline before. Does anyone know what it's called??
Just saw Ron in Rome's post that was before mine and he talked about the gelato place already! It really was good gelato!
I'm not sure FCO airport already implemented that, but in MXP (Milano), flights bound to US and Israel are now processed in a separate check-in area, with one extra layer of security. It doesn't add much to the overall processing time, but you have yet another metal detector to go through.
