I am visiting the Forum and then the Colosseum in that order on a Saturday in mid May. Will I need to go through security separately in each place? I ask because I have limited time to see the Forum before a 3:00 tour of the Colosseum, and I've heard security lines can be long at the Colosseum (1-2 hours), so if it is separate security than the Forum, I'll need to leave the Forum early. Thanks for your help!
Yes. The two sites are not connected. My experience was the Colosseum line was longer. At the Forum, I entered a gate with no waiting.
I don't recall a magnatometor at the Forum.
Becky is spot on: the Forum and Palatine are connected to each other but the Colosseum is separate so allow yourself plenty of time.
The two sites are connected- side by side. Once in the Forum you follow the paths to the Colossem. There is a gate in between with a ticket check - no security screening. The big security screening is at the Colosseum.
Thank you!
There are several portals to leave the forum for the colosseum. If I remember correctly, there is a one-way turnstile in constantine's basilica that is near the colosseum. This may be a nice short- cut for you to get to the Colosseum depending on where you are in the forum.
