Forging ahead to Italy

Well, American Airlines cancelled my flight to Milan, so now I'm headed to Bologna! All they had left was business class seats, so now I'm upgraded :)

Does anyone have a recommendation for a hotel near the main train station in Bologna? I'll be headed out to Lake Como, and it would help to be close to the station.

Thank you!

I stayed at Starhotels Excelsior just across from the train station. It is a modern hotel so room is big and comfortable and my oh my, the breakfast.

I hope you'll have time to see the (very large) historic center of Bologna. It's about a 15- or 20-minute walk from the train station. The area around the Bologna train station is not very attractive.

I'm going to have basically a day and evening in Bologna. I have never been, and I hear the food is the best! I made a reservation at StarHotel (as suggested), which is walking distance to the city center. Any restaurant recommendations that I can walk to?

Thanks everyone :)

Good for you, Ladyvet27! I don't have any recommendations to offer but I know you will enjoy this little hiccup in your original plans. I wouldn't be surprised to have your trip turn out even better than the original!

Check out Rick Steins Long Weekend in Bologna. Made me put the city on my must visit list!

I'd stay a few blocks away from the train station towards the city center. I usually do this before I fly back to the States. Much nicer areas and more things to see and do. Easy 5-10 minute walk to the train station and you will find people walking to the train station quite early. I'm in a town nearby Bologna and happy to see you can continue with your trip plans!

We only had a day to spend in Bologna as we were flying out of here but really enjoyed it. We stayed at Albergo delle Draperie in the town center--very nice and a great location. Not sure how far from the train station it is though.

I read that American Airlines canceled the non stop flight from Philly to Bologna for the summer of 2020.
They launched the seasonal service in June 2019 hoping to capitalize on the fact that Florence doesn’t have an airport able to host large body aircraft, but apparently those headed to Florence would rather have a layover in Europe and fly to Florence rather than having to take the people over+train from Bologna to Florence.
I think now American Airlines passengers to Bologna fly to London Heathrow or Madrid and then proceed to Bologna with British or Iberia (both part of the IAG group and partners of American Airlines in the One World alliance).
