For Wine Lovers! Wine Tasting Recommendations in Montalcino

Hello! My family of 13...mostly 20s and 30s, 2 grandparents and 2 grandkids are looking for a place to do a wine tasting in May. My husband and I are wine lovers, but are relatively new to good wine. We have only tried a handful of brunello! Looking for recommendations of where to go to taste and buy good Brunello. In general, we love small producers. Bonus points for a picturesque location. Also, we are not 100% sure about taking the two kids. Thanks in advance!

Julianna - During my past visit to Montalcino, I stayed in this agriturismo in Montalcino which has a great winery (Castello Banfi il Borgo). Another place with a great Winery is (Winery Tiezzi - Pod. soccorso, 53024 Montalcino SI, Italy).

Castello di Verrazzano is recommended as well but it's in the town of Greve.

Banfi is a really large producer, but the grounds and tasting room are definitely a must visit. So stunning.

We visited many wineries, but you will need to make an advance reservation. They aren’t drop in like most American wineries.

One of our favorite Brunello experiences is actually in the village itself. There is a place called Enoteca di Piazza. They have hundreds of Brunellos that you can enjoy. The kids can run around the piazza or sit next door and have snacks while you taste wine from literally every producer in Montalcino.

Enjoy!

My wife and I visited three wineries while staying near Montalcino this past summer.
The best: Our Agriturismo made us an appointment at Uccelliera in early Sep. https://www.uccelliera-montalcino.it/index-en.php
11 wines in about 60-90 minutes; us and one other couple. Wine host was an executive of the winery. Included their olive oil with bread toward the end of the tasting.
The last stretch of the road to the winery is down a short gravel road. If using a navigator to drive there, best to download an off-line map as the coverage is spotty.
