We are currently in Venice. A heads up if you’re traveling soon-masks ARE required on vaporettos. Staff has been refusing boarding to those who do not have masks-consistently. Seems a bit relaxed once on board though. At least have it to put on when boarding. We were controlled too on the way to Burano out of Murano.
Also for Torcello visitors- we barely made it into the church, so be sure to check visitation times. We forgot. The mosaics are indeed worth the visit and have a different feel than the mosaics in St. Marks’ Basilica.
The mosquitos are vicious! Otherwise, it’s been good weather.
Thanks. We'll be there in 3 weeks for our visit to Venice! Actually first visit to Europe, we are excited to finally be this close after 5 months of planning.
Thank you for the heads up - especially about the mosquitoes! We’ll be there in just over a week and mosquitoes love me and bites on me can last a month so I’ll be bringing extra mosquito spray. Hopefully some areas of Venice not quite as mosquito infested?
I first visited Venice in 1970, and scaffolding was on front of St. Marks then. We were there in June--10 trips and 52 years later scaffolding has always been there.
I just wonder when, if ever, they're going to complete reconditioning of that beautiful building?
Thanks for the heads up! We will be there mid October, but planned to bring masks anyway. Can they be surgical masks or do they need to be N95. Just want to make sure we are prepared.
In regards to mosquitos, I read recently to put a scented dryer sheet in your pocket or somewhere on you. It can’t hurt to try it and takes up no luggage space. Good luck!
And to each of you-
Dan-I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we have. We have 3 more days and not the time to see all we want to.
WKoelsch-DEET! Honestly. I have 3 different deterrents (all more natural) and none of them are effective. I usually welt up and itch a lot, but these bites are more just irritating and slightly itchy. Just way too many. I did bring a Benadryl stick applicator that has helped with what itching I’ve noticed.
David- And now with the water deterrent system being installed around the perimeter, I would say never!
Patrice- At least the mosquitoes should be done for the year! Regular blue type cloth, K95s all the way up to the KN95s. Just no gaiters or any type of pull up cloth/scarf.
KathyW-The one thing we forgot was dryer sheets.
