$700 per night ( breakfast, add $80) .... that will keep the riff-raff out

This for their property in Portugal..... suspect Italy to be no less

I think I'll be passing on that opportunity.

Will they take Hilton points? Oh wait, we don't seem to have as many of those these days.

Just not my cup of tea. I guess it's a nice use of an old castle.

As someone said, if it's like the other property at $700 a night, that's more than our weekly budget. It's not that we couldn't afford it, but we find the fancier the digs, the more we are isolated from the citizenry. We travel is much for interaction with new friends as we do to "see the sights".

I think it's uncertain as when we can get back to some sort of normality regarding European travel. It don't see it happening for us in 2021. In the meantime, as we approach retirement, we are looking for alternatives to satisfy our wanderlust. Our younger son has a camper and we are thinking about getting a small trailer that can be boondocked. We had a pop up camper years ago and loved it. We once spent every night of a six week coast to coast trip in the pop up. There's so much we want to see in the US and Canada.

DougMac,

"It's not that we couldn't afford it, but we find the fancier the digs, the more we are isolated from the citizenry."

I suspect that will be one of the main attractions for accommodations of this kind. The rich folks don't like to mingle with the hoi polloi.
