For side trips - more time in Nice, or Cinque Terre?

I posted this same question in the France forum too! My husband and I are coming to Europe this summer and we are spending 3 nights in Nice, and 4 in Cinque Terre (Vernazza). More and more I'm hearing of side trips I should do from Nice, like Antibes, and am starting to think I should change this to 4 days in Nice, and 3 in Cinque Terre - opinions? I'd love to get to Corsica too but from what I'm seeing that's too much of a challenge. We aren't really lie on the beach people so I'd like to see as much as possible.

Cinque Terre is not really a "lay on a beach" sorta place, its more "hike between quaint villages and eat seafood and pesto sauce". If thats not your thing, more time in Nice would be better.

mpeacock,

Which place to spend the most time in will depend to some extent on which side trips will be of more interest to you. For example......

  • Nice - you can easily take day trips to Monaco & Monte Carlo, Villefranches, Eze or other locations. There are some good Museums there (Matisse & Chagall) and also the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild. It's great to wander the old town area of Nice as there are great street markets, entertainers, etc.
  • Cinque Terre - also a good place for day trips. In addition to exploring the five towns or hiking the trails that are currently open, you can also take day trips to Porto Venere, Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure. The C.T. is also a great place to unwind, enjoy the local food (be sure to try Pesto in the area where it was invented) and local wines.

I wouldn't bother with Corsica on this trip as it would use up too much of your limited time.

My reply (suggesting more time around Nice) is on the France page.
