For art history buffs, Florence's Brancacci Chapel restorations

For art and art history lovers: the Brancacci Chapel in Florence is going through some maintenance and restoration right now. During this time they are offering tours that bring you up on the scaffolding to see the frescoes up close. The days/times are limited but you can book tickets here: https://ticketsmuseums.comune.fi.it/4cappella-brancacci/?int|0rid|0_free|0#acquista

You get 15 minutes on the top level and 15 minutes on the bottom level of the scaffolding with 10-12 people. The frescoes on the sides of the altar are easily visible, the front of the altar are not as accessible and parts are blocked by scaffolding. I went today and I thoroughly enjoyed getting that close to the frescoes. If you are looking for any background on the Brancacci Chapel and what it means to art history I highly recommend Dr. Rocky Ruggiero's Rebuilding the Renaissance podcast in general and the 2 episodes on this chapel in particular (Episodes 75 and 76).

I’m glad that you got in. We stayed in Florence for several nights back in October, and I hadn’t realized that admission was going to be so limited. After arriving at the front door and seeing the sign about required advance reservations, I stood there with my iPhone and tried to make one. Totally booked the whole time we would be there. A woman down the entryway was arguing in Italian with the ticket-takers. My guess is that she was trying to get inside, to no avail.

It's worth seeing, but will need reservations planned and made well in advance.
