I am travelling to Italy this summer and I wanted to bring some smoke salmon to my relatives. Someone one told me that you no longer can bring smoked salmon to Italy?
Yes you can. Frankly they won't check to begin with chances are but even if they do smoked salmon is okay because the smoking effectively preserves the fish. You just can't bring in perishable foods such as cheeses.
So does that rule out fresh fruit to take with on the plane?
Eating fresh fruit on the plane is fine. Bringing it into the country is not. Eat it all before you land and you won't have a problem.
I have brought smoked salmon to France before for relatives without problems btw.
