Hi can you please recommend some food tours in Rome we will have our teens with us ages 14 and 17 and we are staying in Monti area. If we could walk to the tour that would be preferred. Just looking for something fun and interesting for the kids. Will be there in early April. Thanks in advance for any info.
Highly recommend Eating Europe tours - we did the Twilight Trastevere (not sure if that is close to where you'll be staying but it's worth the Uber ride!). It was really great fun. You learn lots about how to order food in Italy, how to spot fake gelato. Everyone we know who has taken this tour has raved about it. GREAT first day activity because you are outside and walking around, also you'll want to return to the places you visit! We also did their tour in Paris, again we had a really high quality guide and went to interesting places we wouldn't have found on our own
We did 2 Food Tours in Rome with Eating Europe - both very informative and delicious.
Thank you for that recommendation, Gretchen! I looked it up and am now planning to add it to my daughter & my itinerary for September.
As part of our Rick Steves tour in Rome, we did an Eating italy tour in Trastevre. It was absolutely wonderful. I would call that walking distance, but if it isn't for your family, there are buses/trolleys that would get you there.
We’ve loved all the Eating Europe tours we’ve done
The am Trastevere tour was super fun

Eating Italy is part of Eating Europe, which has outstanding food tours in many countries. Back in October, we did their tour in the Testaccio neighborhood, considered by many to be Rome’s premier foodie neighborhood. It was the slaughterhouse district 100 years ago, but the slaughterhouses have been converted to an education and entertainment venue. The Testaccio market is a major part of the tour, and is truly remarkable for its quality and variety. You’ll also have lunch inside a mountain created by the ancient Romans - like nowhere else!
Testaccio is just south of Trastevere, but on the same side of the river as Monti. Maybe a half hour walk, but taxi, or quick Metro Line B ride would get you to the piazza Trastevere, where the tour starts. You will get some walking in on the tour, too.
I hardly agree with the eating Italy tours. I have taken several. My favorite was Testaccio. My second favorite was Trastevere. At the time I took those tours they were also offering one near the Vatican. That was not my favorite, as the general area area is very touristy and I wasn’t a fan of the guide.
We took the Sunday tour with Eating Rome which was the JewishGhetto and Campo Marzio. Wonderful experience.
