Hello, I'll be traveling to Rome, Naples and Amalfi Coast in the fall. Unfortunately I have gluten and dairy restrictions. Any suggestions or recommendations for this is appreciated. I'd still like to enjoy local cuisine as much as possible.
Just follow the same practices in Italy that you do at home. People in Italy have similar food restrictions. You may want to write out a note in Italian that says, No gluten or Dairy. Just to be sure that there is not a language problem.
Tell the restaurant you are celiac and dairy intolerant. They will have choices for you.
Celiac = CELIACO (or CELIACA if female) - Pronounce chay-LEE-ako
Dairy Intolerant = INTOLLERANTE AI LATTICINI (pronounce Intollerantay - I - latti-CHENEY)
Many menus today will have an icon or, some kind of designator showing if the dish is Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten Free, etc...
