I love to shop the local markets and cook when I am in Italy. When in Florence I always enjoy the Mercato Centrale and the other smaller markets. This year I will also be in Milan - can someone suggest a food market in the central part of Milan - location and hours would be helpful.
Thanks
Peck's Gastronomia is the best food store in Italy. the main floor is a gigantic market, the basement contains thousands of bottles of wine, and they second floor has a very upscale cafe.

it's located a 10 minute walk from the Piazza del Duomo in the central part of Milano on Via Spadaro.
Peck is the best food store in Italy but priced only marginally lower than a jeweler. Generally speaking, the center of Milan is not the best zone to be shopping for food. As soon as you cross the second ring around the city, you will find frequent neighborhood markets (mercati rionali).
There is also a very large Eataly at Piazza Venticinque Aprile. But at most Esselunga branches you will find a lot of the things you find at Eataly at a much lower price.
Thanks - it looks like the closest Esselunga store is only 15 minutes walk from my flat. The store looks great on the website.
I highly recommend Esselunga. If their Milan stores are anything like their Florence stores (and I suspect they are), you'll find great quality and selection at good prices. Pack or buy a sturdy shopping bag. I always take along one of my Trader Joe's bags.
Well, in central Milan major Esselunga branches can deliver your grocery shopping to your home (look for consegna a domicilio), or even shop on their website and have the shopping delivered home (usually it takes a day). This feature is active only in central Milan and central Florence as selling and delivering fresh groceries is a somewhat complex business.
