Food in Venice

Hi all- I am going to Venice next week with some friends who are major foodies and they want to eat well. Any recommendations on fantastic places to eat while we are there??

We used this list from The Telegraph on a recent trip and tried La Palanca (lunch only) and Osteria Enoteca Ai Artisti. Both were fabulous. I hope to work my way thorugh the list over the next coupel of visits to Venezia!

I enjoyed the Chichetti places over sit down restaurants in Venice for a better variety of food I might not get elsewhere or try.

There is an app - Eat Venice that I have used the last two trips to Venice. I've never been disappointed by Elizabeth Minchilli's suggestions. Chowhound would also have good recommendations. You could also check out Slow Travel for Italy and read the restaurant recommendations for Venice.

What a wonderful and useful article Laurel, thanks! Can't wait to get back to Venice. Too bad there's such a big world out there, and there really are other interesting countries beyond Italia. The possibilities are truly mind-boggling!

Thanks Laurel...I've chose Ribot from that link as a spot I'd like to go to. I already had Il Refolo on my list...to go for lunch.

OP...these are the ones I've researched that we'll have dinner (we will be there 2 nights).

  1. Osteria Bancogino (it overlooks a canal)
  2. Trattoria all Rivetta

I really wanted atmosphere as much as food. We'll be there in nice weather, so I'd rather not be indoors, which eliminate many restaurants I'm sure.

Larry, what do you mean there are other interesting countries besides Italia? Just kidding. I try to broaden my scope as often as possible without feeling like I'm cheating on Italy.

As for restaurants, the advice to get off the main streets/canals is good. Food in Burano and Torcello is generally very good.
