I have a Garmin nuvi 275t and Garmin offers a subscription for an FM Premium Traffic Subscription for Italy to help avoid traffic tie ups, etc. I was wondering if anyone had subscribed to this service, or had any information about it. Thanks for any help. I will be traveling from Lake Como to Venice, and I know the traffic coming into Maestre can be bad news. I will also be traveling to Florence from Venice and going back from Tuscany into Milan's Malpensa airport. Any input would help, thanks.
I don't have any experience using that kind of service in Italy but I did use a GPS with traffic warning capabilities in Germany. However, I didn't find it very useful because the GPS wasn't very good in providing guidance for alternate routes. That's when I got lost - thus loosing probably as much time as if I had been stuck in the traffic jam.
You won't need the FM traffic subscription. Don't waste your money. It's not like the U.S. there. There are not many alternate routes you would be able to take anyway. By the way, stay OUT of the city center in Florence, like the plague. The ZTL will get you, and you will get mega fines.
