Pisa is the closest airport and the easiest transportation connection. Cost may be an issue as it is not a main airport, so compare that to Milan, or maybe Florence for comparision.

If you have a choice from your location:

Pisa would be the closest, Florence or Genoa would also work. Milan Malpensa is another of the international gateways in the north.

Jo,

You'll probably find a greater availablily of flights to larger airports such as Milan / MXP. Genoa is the closest airport to the Cinque Terre.

The only solution I could find for a direct flight to Genoa is from London Stanstead to Genoa via RyanAir. You could also start in Rome and travel to the CT via train (about 4 hours by direct train).

Good luck and happy travels!

Other posters have listed your main airport choices. Using Vernazza as an arbitrary destination, here are your travel times by train. Total time varies depending upon your departure time and route.

Pisa-Vernazza: 1 1/2 - 2 hours.

Firenze-Vernazza: 3 hours.

Milano-Vernazza: 3 1/2 - 4 hours.

Roma-Vernazza: 4 1/2 - 5 1/2 hours.
