Flying out of Venice early AM; where would you stay?

We are flying out of Venice in the early morning. Where is a good place to stay that is near the airport that can shuttle us to the airport? I contacted one place, and they charge 15 euro for the 2 mile drive to the airport. Is this to be expected?
thanks!

A Courtyard Marriott is in the area with an airport shuttle service.

What time is your flight? Venice has excellent bus connections to the airport for most of the earliest departures so that you can spend your last night in the city.

Thanks for the tips!
Our flight leaves at the horrendous hour of 6:45 am! Ugh!! I would love to stay one more night within Venice, but we have to be at the airport so early that I don't want to mess with vaporetti schedules and whatnot. I prefer small, family-run places as a rule; but again, we have to leave so early that maybe a chain hotel would be best this time.

You could stay in Venice and get a water taxi the next morning (high speed private boat). 30 minutes to airport. Catch a water taxi at 5:15 and be at the airport an hour ahead of time (I'm presuming this is a connecting flight vs an international one to the U.S. directly which I don't think can even be done). Your Venice hotel can arrange this the day before. It is pricy at 100 Euros so you'll have to do the math balanced with another night in Venice. Just a data point.

Just get a hotel that has a water taxi dock and have the taxi pick you up at a pre-determined hour. I would not waste my last night staying at an airport hotel.

I am flying out of Marco Polo on a Sunday (ugh) at 10am - there is a bus that will take you from Venice Island (near the train station) on a direct 25 min trip for 6 euros (single way - 11 for return) - on weekends the bus starts at 5:something in the morning. If you click the orange clock for the Venice Marco Polo- Venice Piazzale Roma or other if you need it will show you both pick up and off. Information on how to purchase is also here! http://www.atvo.it/index.php?lang=en&area=23&menuid=35

Robyn, you are probably the 4,000,000th person to have an early flight out of Marco Polo. We see this question frequently. You can stay at the airport at the Courtyard by Marriott or the Titian Inn & Residence Hotel. Both are near the airport and yes, 15Euro is not unreasonable. Or, bus transportation to the airport begins at 5:00am from the Piazzale Roma. The trip takes 25 minutes. You are most likely taking a flight to another EU airport so check-in isn't that bad. The ACTV Line 5 bus has a departure at 4:40am. If you are nearby the Piazzale Roma, you can easily walk to the bus. However, if you are farther down the canal (i.e. 30 minutes away), you will have to take the night vaporetto that comes through about 3:40am.

I would suggest that Robyn's flight time is more problematic at 6:45. If Robyn is to use the bus system at Piazzale Roma, the first two buses depart at 4:40am (ACTV line 5) and 5:00am (ATVO). The daytime vaporetto runs are just starting up at 5:00am and will not get you to the Piazzale Roma in time for the first two buses if she is staying in the San Marco area. Therefore, Robyn has to take the night vaporetto that stops at San Marco Vallaresso (for example) at 03:22am. Robyn, where are you staying? If you were at a hotel such as the Hotel Papadopoli, you could walk 500' from the hotel to the bus. The Hotel Santa Lucia, near the train station is a 10-12 minute walk away from the Piazzale Roma.

We had a 7:30am flight out of Venice and stayed "in town". We took the Alilaguna water shuttle. Picked up at a stop near San Marco, took about 45 mins to the airport. Nice tour of non-touristy Venice heading to the Airport. 10-11 euros, I think. I'm a 2 hour before flight guy, so we were up early, but the boats run early.

Robyn I just returned from a trip to Venice on September 10. There is no need to stay near the airport for an early flight. I had some concerns about this which proved to be needless. We stayed in the city near the Arsanale area, not far from Piazza San Marco. My flight out was at 9:30 am. I took the Alilaguna Line Bleu vaporetto at 5:54 AM from Arsanale. They have frequent pick up times, check their website for the schedule and the stops. The ticket cost 15 euros. You can purchase this in advance or purchase it from a conductor once on board. The trip took about 50 minutes, and then there is a short, easy walk (less than 10 minutes) to the airport terminal. I had absolutely no problems doing this and it was a lovely farewell watching the sun rise over Venice from the water. Enjoy your trip!
