Flying out of Venice

Any suggestions for Airport lodging as we have to fly out at 6:30 am on a sunday. Any lodging attached to the airport?
Thank You.

A Marriott Courtyard is close to Marco Polo Airport, and they're very decently priced relative to Venice prices. See Marriott.com Their complimentary shuttle service to Marco Polo Airport runs every day from 5.00 am until 01.00 pm and from 3.00 pm until 11.00 pm. There's also a Titian Inn (TitianInn.com) closeby. You can magnify a Googlemap online to see some B&B's closeby if needed. Leaving very early by water taxi from Venice is very pricey.

Staying near the Marco Polo airport before getting on an early flight out is a good idea given the time (and money) it takes to travel to the airport by water taxi early in the morning. I think we contributors to the Helpline should start advising people that Venice is an excellent airport to arrive at from the US, but maybe Rome is better for the return trip to the US. I usually suggest friends who purchase an open jaw ticket to start their trip in the North (Venice or Milan, depending on where they go), then work their way south on land and then return to the US from Rome. From downtown Rome to the airport, early in the morning, since there is no traffic, it's less than 30 min. and the taxi ride costs less than 50 euros. By train also is reasonably fast (32 min for 14 euro). I don't consider either Venice or Milan Malpensa good airports to fly back to the US. The time to go to their respective airports almost forces you to stay near the airport the night before (although Malpensa is better than it used to be since they built the station inside).

Marco Polo is quite nice to fly out of providing you have a later flight, as we did in 2011, but Roberto is right that those very early morning ones can be a PITA.

For Rome, if you have several people in the group, setup a private transfer and the driver will literally fly you with no regard for speed, yet very safe! Other thing most people need to do is fly open jaw in Europe. Most of us in the USA are trained to fly into and out of the same city. Open jaw is usually the best option and not any more expensive
