Flying out of Rome/FCO Airport Time Needed

Hello,

My husband and I will be flying out of Rome/FCO airport Friday morning at 7am. I am wondering about how much time we should allow ourselves in order to go through all the airport hoops in time and not miss our flight back home. Has anyone flown out of this airport recently? If so, what was your experience? Thanks in advance for any replies, tips, advice.

Hi, I flew out of Rome on June 23. I had Delta’s 12:30pm flight to JFK.

I stayed my last night at the handy Hilton at the airport, so I just walked over to the airport using their skywalk - very easy! My family is always early to flights & baseball games, as we say! I was inside the airport 3 1/2 hours early. I had time to get through security, have a leisurely breakfast, stop and play a few songs on one of the pianos near my gate, and I still had an hour & a half to wait.

I will be back at Rome in September, taking our adult daughter. After my experience, I switched our last night in Rome to the Hilton. We will have the early flight like yours, and that will give us 1 1/2 hours extra to sleep.

Depends likely on airline. I flew ITA this week from FCO. Airline is a disaster with a terrible and confusing app, charges your for seat assignments, bags, takes FOREVER to check in at counter which wasted all the time I thought we would gain from a lightning fast security line process, and the food on board is terrible. Also, flight crew created a room for themselves using thick curtains at back of plane to avoid passengers.

If it is a direct flight back to the US, then I would allow two maybe three hours because you have exit immigration. If it is a connecting flight to your return flight then an hour to 90 minutes at that time of morning is fine because you are just going through security.
