I just found out that my return trip home to U.S. will be out of Naples and not Florence on Oct. 2. Rather than cut my time short in Florence by a day I have decided to take the fast train to Naples in the late afternoon the day before our flight arriving in Naples around dinner time. Our flight is the next morning, I am looking for a hotel recommendation that is close to the airport, convenient but would also maybe give us an option for one last lovely evening in Italy with food:)

Most every hotel will work as Naples is so close to the actual airport. We stayed at the Oriente just near the Toledo stop and I think we were at the airport in 15 minutes. My suggestion is find the restaurant you want to go to and then a place nearby....short ride in the morning.

We stayed near the Castel dell'Ovo ("Egg Castle"). There are a string of hotels there and lots of restaurants. It is by the water and mostly pedestrianized. We liked it. Our hotel called us a taxi for our 7 am flight. Warning: It took only 10 minutes because apparently stopping at red lights is optional at 5 am!

We were in Naples this past June, and loved the Hotel Piazza Bellini, also very near the Toledo bus and metro stop, but on a quiet street. The hotel itself has a lovely courtyard with a bar. Lots of good restaurant choices nearby, as well.

We stayed by the water in the Chiaia district at Palazzo Alabardieri. Lovely hotel.
