Flying out of Florence travelling from Lucca

I will be going to Italy for the first time for a month in May/June 2013. I am flying in and out of Florence. I will be staying for a few days in Lucca at the end of my trip and I am scheduled to fly back home out of Florence on a Sunday at 2:30. I'm wondering if I will be able to get a bus or train from Lucca early enough to make my flight rather than coming back to Florence and staying just one night. I tried to check trains on Rick's website but looks like maybe no train on a Sunday. Does anyone know if buses run very often on Sundays or where I can find bus schedule to be sure? Thanks for any advice you can give me.

There are at least 2 regionale trains/hour that go directly from Lucca to Florence. Depending upon the number of stops, the trip takes from 1hr19min to 1hr43min. The fare is €7.00. For timetables see either trenitalia.com or the German Rail site.

If you have not made your flight arrangements, check on flying open jaw'd out of Pisa. It's closer to Lucca, and it is a larger and busier airport than Florence. You might see if flight times out of Pisa (including airport transfers) can get home quicker.

Thank you both for your help. I hadn't even thought of flying out of Pisa - unfortunately already made my flight reservations. Will keep in mind for next time (as there WILL BE a next time). Knowing there are frequent trains means I won't worry about staying in Lucca an extra night. Thanks again!

The train from Lucca to Florence takes about 90 minutes. Lots of trains on Sunday. It's the regional buses that cut back their runs. From the main Florence train station, there is a Pisa Airport/Florence Airport bus that stops at the train station but it might be best to simply jump in a taxi. About 25Euros to get to the airport. Assume 2.0-2.5hrs overall to get from Lucca to the airport.
