Flying out of FCO -Rome

Hi so I am in Rome for a couple of weeks but want to make sure I know what to do before departing.

I will be flying out of FCO at 1:15pm to ( LHR )London Heathrow via British Airlines.

What terminal will this be in and where do I need to go to get my boarding pass & drop my luggage?

I've been reading about T5 and it is a bit intimidating but I do not have a direct flight to the US so I am not sure if I need to go there.

Thanks in advance!

Not certain how you are getting to the airport, but it you travel there by train as you leave the airport train station you will see a big electronic board. Find your flight number and that will tell you which terminal. AS long as you get there 3 hours ahead you will not have a problem as the airport is small.

It sounds as if you're going to be changing planes at Heathrow, right? I just went through there last week on a connecting flight from Barcelona. The thing that was most unexpected for me was how long it takes to go through security, so be sure to allow plenty of time. And, yes, it's a huge airport and it can take a long time to get to your actual gate.

We flew British Airways from FCO to LHR in January 2013, and things may have changed since then, so as suggested earlier, check the departures board for your terminal. I don't know whether BA is now using self check-in kiosks at FCO, but otherwise check your luggage and obtain a boarding pass at the BA check-in desk at FCO. The security maze had a seemingly very long line at FCO, but it moved very fast and we were on our way to our gate in short order. Approaching the gate, a line had formed early on, with everybody standing and waiting for the longest time to be let thru a door. We then all reached a second door, where the line continued to stand until it was time to actually board the plane, so sitting much beforehand may not be an option, although your results may be different now.

T5 at LHR is big and busy, but it works. If you find yourself in T5, get a bite to eat at the "Eat" stand or at Gordon Ramsay's "Plane Food" restaurant. Get some Thornton's toffee at The Chocolate Box shop. If you need assistance at LHR or have questions in any terminal, ask any of the staff walking around in a purple coat. Have a great trip!

I think the previous comments may confuse you because they are mixing up terminals FCO with LHR, probably because they didn't understand your question.

Your flight out of FCO is British Airways BA 549 departing FCO at 13:15.
It departs from FCO Terminal 3 (T3). Your BA gate should be in the 'H' or 'G' piers of T3.
To reach the G gate boarding area you need to take a short people mover ride to the satellite G boarding area. However I don't know if there have been changes lately because of the recent fire in the boarding area D. In any case it's T3 for sure.
You don't need to go to T5, that is for flights operated by US based airlines (American, Delta, United) and the Israeli airline only.
You can see the FCO terminal maps here.
When you arrive at the T3 check-in hall look at the display monitors to see in which check-in Counter position number your BA flight is checking-in. Go there and do your check in as you would do at any airport. Haven't flown BA lately, but it's likely they have self-service kiosks you need to check in first.
Security lines at FCO look intimidatingly long, but they move fast. For your flight to LHR try to be there at the very least 60 minutes prior to departure. However I suggest 75 to 90 min prior.
Your flight will arrive at London LHR Terminal T5. That might be the reason why you got confused with T5 at FCO (which you don't have to see at all).
