Flying out Milan MXP where to stay night before

We will be in Florence (after Verona, Dolomites, Venice) and fly out of MXP at 15:00. Any recommendations for our last night to stay to make the flight day travel more reasonable (vs coming from Florence)? I was originally thinking Milan but looking for other ideas. We would travel there by noon the day before flying and spend roughly 24 hours. Thank you

Hi, Giangilberto from Milan here, I recommend you to visit Milan in your few hours and sleep there, but if you want you can visit a bit of Lago Maggiore, Arona and Sesto Calende are both close to Malpensa airport, you can sleep there and finally go to the airport, it's like less than half an hour by car, do you have a car or are you moving with public transports?

Thank you. We have a car for Dolomites only and then public transportation. I appreciate your response.

Well, the solution is simple. You can either take the train from Florence that day, in the morning and it’ll be a few hour affair with at least one or two changes needed, or you go the day before, spend the night in Milano, and then take the Malpensa Express from Milano Centrale to Malpensa around noon to catch your 3pm flight. The rest is up to you.

My advice: keep it simple. It's a two hour direct train from Florence. Don't worry about train transfers at Milano Centrale to some other destination on the last day of your trip. There's plenty to see and do in Milan for one day and it's different enough from your other locations that it warrants a full day.

Since you are not departing super early in the morning I would stay in Milan near the Cadorna train station which has the fastest trains to Malpensa and is also very close to the Duomo and Castello Sforzesco.

Lake Maggiore is an option but frankly I don’t think you are there long enough to enjoy it. What can you do in one afternoon in Stresa?
