Flying ITA

We are booked on ITA from Chicago to Rome and on to Palermo. Does any one have any issues with this airline?

I flew with them two months ago and will do the same in May. No problems at all.

I took a flight from Rome, Italy to Eastern Europe with them last year and I was very pleased with the experience. I have another flight scheduled with them for September 2026.

Same employees of Alitalia (now defunct, but most employees were taken over by ITA).
Brand new planes in "Azzurro" (blue) livery.
Recently became owned by Lufthansa, the majority shareholder.
Alitalia employees used to have "better than thou" attitude, given the generous salaries and benefits they enjoyed at the expense of taxpayers (Alitalia was government owned, and always in the red). I don't know if after the major layoffs at Alitalia when the company went under and the subsequent taking over by ITA, their attitude has become more humble.

I flew with them from Paris to Reggio Calabria and back (via Rome both ways) in April and had no problems.

Never flown ITA transatlantic, but this spring we flew round-trip Rome–Palermo, and ITA was absolutely fine (although more expensive than we were expecting).

Roberto, I noticed that some of the equipment is still labeled "Alitalia."

Service onboard was about the same as Alitalia's.
They are not going to run that extra mile for you, but my flights were fine.

I have flown 2 direct flights from SFO - FCO in the last couple years and will be flying with them again in March 2026. I had no issues at all with the flights. They are kind of bare bones when it comes to service vs. say, Air France, but getting there so fast and safe is all that matters to me.

They are gradually replacing all the old Alitalia equipment. The ORD-FCO is served by a new Airbus 330-Neo
