Flying into Rome then heading to Amalfi by train

Looking for suggestions, we land in Rome then the plan was to take high speed train to Naples then not sure if we should do ferry to the town of Amalfi or train? Suggestions for family of 6. July 2024.

There are no trains to Amalfi town, only as far as Sorrento. That last leg, Naples-Sorrento is not a long-distance train, but more of a metro or commuter train, one which tends to be very crowded, and has no real luggage racks. Many posters here find it an unpleasant experience, but it is really inexpensive.

Six people are too many for a sedan, or I would suggest you consider a car and driver, even though it would likely be 300 Euros.

Month of year? The Amalfi Coast is really, really crowded from May to September. But there are many fewer ferries, and more wave-height cancellations out of season.

The Frecciarossa train is great, but advance purchase discounts mean you can't change your train if the plane is delayed. So think carefully about that purchase. And think about your trip home. You cannot wake up in Amalfi and fly home the same day from Rome.

Amalfi isn't terribly far from Salerno--about 17 miles, though they aren't easy miles. Salerno has fast rail service from Rome. Surely it would be cheaper to arrange private transportation (if wanted) from Salerno to Amalfi than from Naples to Amalfi. And the ferry schedule might cooperate--or the bus schedule, though I suspect the bus might not be so comfortable.

Thank you for your input, I apologize we are traveling July 2024 for a family wedding. We are not traveling back to Rome to go home.

I vote to see if your "supposed" train would put you in Salerno with at least 1 or 2 ferries before the last option for a ferry to Amalfi, as it will be super fun and probably more relaxing than trying to squeeze your way on a bus!

Using Joe Banana Limos for a transfer in Mid-May from Salerno to Praiano for 160 Euros. Researched 6 sources mentioned on this forum and many were booked or were far more expensive. The response communication from this company was excellent.
