Flying into Palermo OR Catania to see the most sights

My husband and I are trying to determine if we should fly into Palermo for a starting point in our trip to Sicily for just a few days OR Catania. I have read and seen pictures of the Ionian coast, the greek temples, the volcano and vineyards and this is more of what we would like to see and do. The beaches look amazing and so does the blue water. I do not want to sell Palermo short, but from what I can tell it reminds me of a combination of Naples and Nice. If we fly into Palermo I am guessing it would be a farther drive down to that area than Catania but I am not certain. Any recommendations or additional information about which area to fly into knowing that we ultimately want to enjoy the places mentioned above? Thank you!!!

The choice really depends on how much time you have on the ground and what parts of Sicily you would like to see. Every region has something to offer and can have an itinerary built around it. I was only in Sicily for 4 full days because it was a side trip from Malta - so I just chose to focus on the southeast (the Baroque towns like Ragusa, Noto, and Siracusa and even a day trip to Taormina). I flew into Catania because it was the only logical choice from Malta. If you have more than 10 days, then fly into Catania and out of Palermo or vice versa. If you have a very short time, I would advise prioritizing a region and not try to cover the whole island (for that you need at least two weeks, if not more).
