Flying into Milan- where next to see mountains/nature?

We are flying into Milan in late September. We planned to drive to somewhere near Aoesta from there. We love mountains and natural beauty. I'd love to hear your suggestions of other options or affirm our decision. We'll be staying at this location for a little over a week before driving to Lake
