Do you have a suggestion for a nice hotel very near the hotel? Also, we will want to return a rental car? Is that at the airport, too. Is it possible to rent a car in Venice and return it in Florence?

The airport is very close to town in Florence. I would recommend that you stay in central Florence You can take a cab into town for a flat rate of about 22 euro or so. The airport area is not very inviting and it will only take about 20 minutes to get to town from the airport. There is also a regular shuttle bus between the airport and the central train station. It costs 6 euro per person I believe. There are many car rental agencies at the Florence airport. You can rent a car in Venice and return it in Florence. There are also other car rental offices in and around Florence but I don't recommend driving into central Florence due to the restricted traffic zone areas.
