Flying from Naples to Palermo

As part of our Italy trip in May, we plan to fly from Naples to Palermo. Any suggestions for what to do and what not to do?

The options are:
Easyjet, RyanAir, Volotea.
Since they are all low cost airlines the thing you must be aware of is the extra cost of checking in luggage and the very stringent carry on baggage rules. Other than that it’s just an ordinary short 50 min flight.
The trip to/from the airport can be done by taxi or bus.

Stay in Palermo city center as there is so much to see. Take a bus out to Monreale, a masterpiece!

Thanks for the info on the flights and yes, we are staying in the Palermo city center.

I would love to try the ferry but time won't allow on this trip.

Suggestions?

Yes, a very important one. You will be flying a budget airline, from the three Roberto mentioned, so do not be tempted to be a cheapskate.

The greatest share of disgruntled budget airline passengers are those that tried to get the cheapest ticket, then ran afoul of the rules, and wound up paying dearly for an overweight bag, to many items, or not thinking to use the app or have their boarding pass printed out.

Whether it is Ryanair or Easyjet (the ones I have experience with), you will see a ridiculously low fare, and then the option to upgrade, take the upgrade. Do not think that you can scrunch your bag to a small size or stay under 10 kilo. Add on the things that will make your flight easy, and guess what, you will still likely be under $100 for a ticket. For Easyjet, they call it Standard Plus or the Essentials package; for Ryanair, it is Plus, or I suppose Flexi-Plus if that works better.

Read and understand the rules and baggage limits, they enforce them. Some routes only fly certain days, though Naples/Palermo may be everyday.

We flew Ryanair twice in September (Rome/Palermo and Catania/Naples) both were easy, uneventful, much quicker than train or ferry, cheaper too. Have also flown them a number of times before, as well as Easyjet, never a problem.

Are you sure time won't allow it? Sure, the trip takes a lot longer than flying, but since you travel while sleeping it is a very time efficient way to travel.
