Flying from Milan/Malpensa Airport

Trying to plan ahead for our trip in September. Maybe too early?

We will be ending our RS tour in Naples on September 17 and will be taking the train from there to Milano Centrale train station, and then a different train to get to Malpensa. Our flight leaves at 15:35. I'm looking around to see what train tickets cost because the usual advice is to buy in advance.

Given what you know today, how early should we try to be at the airport? With that information I can work backwards and look at schedules for the other trains.

Thanks in advance!

Are you planning to travel from Naples to Milan on the day of the flight?

Where does the flight from Milan go? ( if to a Schengen country, 2hrs should be adequate; otherwise 3 hrs is the standard recommendation for an international flight)

The Malpensa Express runs every 30 minutes. So unless you time it perfectly, your best case scenario is a journey of 6 hrs from when train leaves the Naples station to your arrival at MXP

I suspect the percentage of folks who would try to fly from Milan, leaving Naples on the day of the flight, looks like a typical bank's interest rate, i.e., 0.01%

Thanks for your response. The flight from Milan goes to Reykjavik, Iceland, which I think is Schengen (?). Anyway, I just realized that the train from Milano Centrale to the airport takes 51 minutes, so that really is cutting it too close.

I'm think we should spend the night in Milan on the 16th! :-)

Iceland is part of Schengen, however I always consider it wise to spend the night in or near the city you fly out from. Naples is 7 hours away and things happen. Last Friday June 3rd a high speed train accident between Naples and Rome shut down the line for many hours and caused huge delays for a few days until the line was fully fixed this past Wednesday.

Anyway to push the flight to the next day?

Missing the final dinner would be a shame.

Here's the good news. I found a flight on easyJet from Naples to Malpensa airport at a reasonable time for a reasonable price. Problem solved!!
